A talk titled "Artificial Intelligence: Who Writes the Future?" was delivered by our faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Caner Özcan at the Bilim Genç "Science at the Café" event, organized with the support of TÜBİTAK and the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Turkey. Held at the Karabük Municipality Has Bahçe Social Facility, the event brought together an engaged audience to explore the fundamentals, history, everyday impact, and future of artificial intelligence.
The talk explained how AI works — covering core concepts such as machine learning, deep learning, neural networks, and natural language processing — in clear, accessible language. Illustrated with real-life examples, the presentation revealed the invisible role AI already plays in our daily lives. Participants learned how phones and digital platforms do not merely "listen" to users, but rather predict their behaviour through sophisticated AI systems.
The capabilities of AI — including text generation, image recognition, and content creation — were discussed with concrete examples. In the later part of the session, the risks and ongoing debates surrounding AI were also addressed. Topics such as workforce transformation, data-driven biases, deepfake technologies, and the human-machine balance in decision-making processes were explored in depth.
"Artificial intelligence is more than a technical subject — it is a societal decision. The future of AI will be shaped not only by engineers, but by all segments of society together."
