A Significant Contribution from Our Students at an International Scientific Event
Students from the Department of Software Engineering and the Department of Computer Engineering at our university participated with their scientific studies in the 4th International Conference on Advances in Civil Aviation Systems Development (ACASD), held in Kyiv on March 26, 2026, which also offered online participation.
The study titled "Deep Learning-Based Image Processing for Threat Detection and Avoidance System", conducted under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Caner Özcan, was prepared by undergraduate students Mustafa Kale and Eren Altun from the Department of Software Engineering.
The study, presented by Mustafa Kale, introduces an integrated system that combines real-time threat detection and intelligent avoidance strategies for UAVs. The YOLOv8-based model achieved an accuracy of 95.3% and operated at 28 FPS in the Gazebo simulation environment, demonstrating highly effective performance.
The study titled "Performance Evaluation of YOLO Models for Drone Detection in Real-World Aerial Imagery", prepared by graduate student Uğurcan Şen from the Department of Computer Engineering under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Emrah Özkaynak, was also presented online at the conference.
The achievements of our students at this internationally recognized scientific event make a significant contribution to our university's research and development vision. We congratulate our students and their academic advisors, and wish them continued success.
