Computer Engineering Department Course Exemption Principles

  1. The student must have successfully passed the course for which they are requesting an exemption at their previous university.
  2. The credit of the course for which the student is requesting an exemption cannot be less than the credit of the equivalent course in our department. The course credit is primarily based on ECTS credits. If there is no ECTS credit in the transcript, the course credit is used as the basis. Furthermore, the content of the course for which exemption is requested must match at least 80% with the content of the course in our department.
  3. The course to be used as the basis for exemption must have been passed with a grade of at least 65 in the hundred-point system or its equivalent in other grading systems at the previous university. Otherwise, the student cannot be exempted from the relevant course.
  4. For course exemptions other than common courses determined by the Council of Higher Education, namely Turkish Language, Atatürk's Principles and History of Revolution, and Foreign Language, the Universities and Programs must be equivalent. Courses taken in an associate degree level program cannot be considered equivalent to BLM or CME coded professional courses taught in our Department, and no exemption is granted. However, graduates from associate degree level Computer Programming programs are only exempted from BLM113 Introduction to Computer Engineering (CME113 Introduction to Computer Engineering), BLM 111 Programming Languages I (CME 111 Programming Languages I), and BLM 112 Programming Languages II (CME 112 Programming Languages II) courses. Such students cannot be exempted from professional courses (CME or BLM coded courses) other than these three courses.
  5. The student must have their transcript and course syllabi from their student years certified by their previous university and attach them to their petition. The course names and codes in the student's transcript must match the course names and codes in the document containing the course syllabi.
  6. Letter grades (AA, A1, etc.) in the student's transcript must have an equivalent in the 100-point, 4-point, or 5-point grading system. Otherwise, the exempted course grade of the student will be evaluated as C, which is the lowest passing grade.
  7. If the course for which exemption is requested is one of the courses taught in English in our department, the student must have taken and successfully completed this course in English at their previous university. Otherwise, even if the content and credit match, the exemption process will not be carried out.
  8. If the grade of the course for which the student is requesting exemption in their transcript from their previous university is indicated as EXEMPT, the previous transcript on which the exemption was based must be submitted.
