The TÜBİTAK 1002 Project Led by Our Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ferhat Atasoy Has Been Selected for Funding

The project titled “Development of a Real-Time Friend-Foe Aircraft Detection System for UAVs Using Deep Learning Approaches”, coordinated by our Department of Computer Engineering faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ferhat Atasoy, has been entitled to receive support within the scope of the TÜBİTAK 1002-Quick Support Program.
Within the scope of the project, it is aimed to enable unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to recognize aircraft encountered in operational fields in real-time using visual data and to develop decision support mechanisms for friend-foe identification through artificial intelligence-supported methods.
One of the innovative aspects of the study is that the acquired images are processed and classified directly on mini-computers integrated into the UAV, without being transmitted to a central station. This approach aims to accelerate decision-making processes and establish an efficient communication infrastructure.
We congratulate our faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ferhat Atasoy, project coordinator, for this study which will contribute to our university's research capacity and artificial intelligence-based technologies, and wish him continued success in his endeavors.
